24 Hours at The Austonian: Events and Entertainment at The Austonian, May 5th

06/07/2012

Many residents of The Austonian enjoy hosting events for their companies, charitable organizations, friends and others in The Austonian's amenity spaces.  The Austonian event staff is fully-equipped to help coordinate virtually any aspect or detail of the event – from the decorations, to the catered food, to scheduling event entertainment. On May 5th, The Austonian hosted three separate events over the course of the day, without a snag, thanks to the hosts' participation and to the careful planning of The Austonian event and concierge staff.

The two major amenity spaces utilized for special events at The Austonian are The Austonian Club on the 55th floor and The Lonestar Bar on the 10th floor. Both spaces can be configured to accommodate virtually any arrangement, from intimate drinks for two, to a board meeting or a poker game, to a 200-person cocktail party.

The events of May 5th included a VIP luncheon for 100, a Cinco de Mayo-themed fundraising dinner for the St. David's Foundation – both of which occurred in The Austonian Club – as well as an HOA-sponsored Kentucky Derby watching party on the 10th floor, which was open to all residents.  For the event planning and concierge staff, the timing of these events required significant juggling, logistics and running around; but to the event hosts and sponsors, as well as the party-goers, everything went down without a hitch.

For The Austonian Event Director, Cynthia Nelson, planning for these events encompassed far more than the day-of activities. For some, such as the VIP luncheon and the HOA sponsored Kentucky Derby event, planning occurred via the phone, email and in-person meetings weeks in advance of the event, while the Toast of the Town dinner was planned the week-of.

Each event necessitated its own special set-up, break-down, guest escorts, as well as catering and entertainment coordination. For the luncheon, even elevator logistics had to be ironed out. By having three events in one day, one right after the other, the set up and break down of each event had to be swift and smooth. Extra cocktail tables, round tables, bar set up, table cloths, floral centerpieces and decorations, not to mention the food and catering considerations, all had to be coordinated and ready on cue.

All of the event planning staff's hard work leading up to, and during, the May 5th events paid off, as hundreds of people got to enjoy three very different and unique Saturday experiences at The Austonian. Whether it was with a Kentucky Derby race hat and a mint julep in hand,  or swaying to the music of a Latin Combo sipping on a hand-crafted margarita, everyone who entered The Austonian's doors that day got to have some fun high above the hustle and bustle of downtown Austin.
