Fitness at the Highest Level
With sweeping views and state-of-the-art equipment, The Austonian 56th-floor Fitness Center is not only a dream gym for avid athletes, but also an inspiring place for the most workout-resistant types. Additional irresistible incentives are the on-site bike valet and storage services, the nearby Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trails and the 10th floor lap pool, with its direct views of the state capitol.
When planning the luxury condos, The Austonian development team wanted to design a fitness center that not only reflected the high-rise building's commitment to luxury, but also surpassed all other workout spaces in town. The team had long-hoped to make the structure's highest floors and the preeminent views of downtown Austin and the Texas Hill Country that accompany them accessible to all homeowners. Though perhaps unconventional, by placing the Fitness Center on the top level of The Austonian, the team realized all of these goals and made the workout facility the highest point in Austin.
"The view is spectacular and the equipment is the best of the best," said Austonian General Manager, Terry Arterburn. The Fitness Center is divided into two spaces: There's Studio 56, a yoga and Pilates studio with Stott Pilates reformers. And there's a space for cardio and strength training that features high-end equipment including Precor AMTs, elliptical machines and treadmills. Additionally, each piece of cardio equipment offers an iPod dock and a personal TV. While personal trainers – in dance, gymnastics, Pilates, yoga and other activities -- are more than welcome, The Austonian has partnered with fitness director Tim Meyer of Meyer Athletic Development to offer classes and one-on-one training.
Tim Meyer has worked in the fitness industry for more than 10 years. His past clientele includes the majority of the sports teams at Southern Methodist University, the Austin Aztex professional soccer team and Ryan Ludwick of the Pittsburg Pirates. At The Austonian, Tim offers on-site group and individual training sessions, including strength training, beginning yoga classes and aquatics classes. Tim's favorite part of being a trainer at The Austonian is working with the residents. "They are all fantastic individuals with their own personalities, and it is interesting to see them interact together in our sessions," said Tim. "With great space, a trainer is allowed to be creative and innovative, and I certainly have that at The Austonian."
In addition to the 56th floor Fitness Center, there is a 75-foot saltwater lap pool on the 10th Floor Lawn which provides a place for swimmers to exercise year-round. For residents who enjoy running and biking, the Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail is just two blocks away, and The Austonian also offers convenient bike storage and valet for its residents.
The posh fitness amenities at The Austonian have earned the residency a gracious recognition by Austin Fit Magazine, which named The Austonian one of Austin's Fittest Homes in 2010.
