With the new year upon us, it’s a great time to get a jump start on your resolutions for 2015, especially when it comes to being fit. As one of the fittest cities in the country, Austin makes the active lifestyle easy, accessible and fun, especially downtown. The area in and around The Austonian luxury condominiums is home to a variety of fitness options, from seasonal and annual events to trails and workout spaces that can be used year round.

Austin is known for its extensive running and biking trails, and the iconic Lady Bird Lake trail is mere steps from The Austonian’s front door. With the addition of the boardwalk last summer, the trail is now a closed 10-mile loop, and an ideal place to go for a bike or run while taking in both the natural beauty of the lake and some of the best views of downtown Austin. If you want to explore a little further, this list of the best places to run has trails and routes around town that will please fitness lovers of all types.

The city is also home to many recurring fitness events throughout the year, with many upcoming in the next few months. For runners, there’s the Color
Fun Fest 5k on January 11th, a race that motivates runners by showering them in color powder throughout the race. For a more casual run, City Running Tours has events throughout the year that bring running and sightseeing together, featuring tours of downtown, UT Campus, the Greenbelt and more. Many of their tours end with beer sampling at local breweries and pubs, as a little reward for all that exercise. For a more serious challenge, the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is on February 15th.

For fitness close to home, the Fitness Center at The Austonian provides residents with an unparalleled space for exercise of all types. The Fitness Center occupies the whole 56th floor of The Austonian tower, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the best view in the city. The east side of the gym is reserved for Studio 56, an open space perfect for yoga, Pilates and stretching, while the west side is home to the cardio and strength training equipment with over 20 available machines. The gym has everything you need to make your new year’s fitness goals a reality, and you can’t beat the motivation those views provide!
