Fall is fast approaching, which, in Austin translates into cooler weather, music festivals and University of Texas football.

The University of Texas is one of Austin’s most iconic and long-standing establishments, and, in the fall, burnt orange takes over the city in a wave, as students return to campus for a new year, and quarterbacks, yard lines and touchdowns are the talk of the town. For residents of The Austonian, downtown luxury living affords a number of options for viewing and experiencing football season as residents are incredibly close to the stadium and tailgating festivities, and the building itself offers multiple amenity spaces for watching the football games and engaging with other UT fans in the Austonian community.

The 2012 UT football season begins September 1st with a home game against Wyoming at The Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. The stadium is located a mere 8 minutes away from The Austonian luxury condominiums, and is the sixth largest collegiate stadium in the country with seating options for 100,119 football fans. During home games, residents of The Austonian can literally see the burnt orange radiating from the stadium from the upper levels of the building. There are six home games this season, against Wyoming, New Mexico, West Virginia, Baylor, Iowa State and TCU. Tickets start at $60.00 and are available for
purchase online.

For those who want the live game day experience, but don’t want to sit in the stadium, tailgating is a popular pastime that has almost become a sport in its own right. Tailgaters can rent and reserve spots near the stadium, set up tents, grills and coolers and can party freely on game day. There is a culture surrounding UT tailgating that includes BBQ, alcohol and cowboy boots, and residents of The Austonian are literally minutes away from the festivities. Bars around campus and across the city also host game day activities as well. Favorites near campus include Posse East and Scholz Garten, while along South Lamar, The Tavern and Shoal Creek Saloon get football fans a little further away from the action. But, with the football fever so prevalent in Austin, virtually every bar across the city has its own miniature party on game days, as fans from North to South Austin celebrate and revel in the University of Texas’ football prowess.

For Austonian residents who prefer the peace and comfort of home, many of the building’s amenity spaces are ideal for watching the game with friends and fellow community members. Residents regularly host viewing parties during UT football games – complete with alcohol, football game food and celebration. During every game, the Theater at The Austonian is open and available for all residents, the Lonestar Bar offers a space for watching, drinking and cheering, and the Lawn, with its flat screen TVs and outdoor grills, offers the ideal place for some hamburgers, a cold beer and sports camaraderie.

This fall, residents of The Austonian can experience every one of the UT football games – home or away – from the comfort of home, or literally minutes away from the building.
