This weekend, downtown Austin will be filled with creamy sweetness, as Republic Square Park plays hosts to the international Gelato World Tour. The international competition stops in eight cities around the globe in search for the best gelato in the world, and has already passed through Dubai, Melbourne, Rome and Valencia. Austin is the only North American stop on the tour, which will bring together 16 of the best gelato makers in the United States and Canada who are competing for the title of best gelato on the continent. Austin is represented in the competition too, by Teo Espresso and Gelato, which opened on 38th Street in 2003.
The event is free and open to the public in Republic Square Park, just around the block from The Austonian luxury condominiums, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tasting tickets to the event are $10, and will get you five tastes of gelato, as well as the chance to vote for your favorite flavor. More information about the Gelato World Tour is available online.
