With the World Cup well underway, the whole world is swept up in fútbol fever – and Austin is no exception. Restaurants and bars across town are screening the games, along with happy hours and food specials. Here are a few in downtown Austin, within walking distance from The Austonian downtown luxury condominiums
One of West Sixth’s street’s original bars, Star Bar’s back patio is the perfect place to watch the game. Their patio is equipped with 8 televisions, 5 of which are 70 inches and they’re showing every World Cup game during operating hours. During the U.S. games, they’ll be hosting drink specials, the next of which is on Sunday, June 22nd. Additionally, those dressed in patriotic attire for the U.S. matches will receive free queso from the Valentina’s food trailer parked outside the bar.
RUSSIAN HOUSE – 307 E. 5th Street
Russian House on East 5th Street is hosting World Cup watch events all month long. Along with constantly streaming games, they’ll have food and drink specials. And they’ll host bonus happy hours during all of the matches’ halftimes!
FADO’S IRISH PUB – 214 W. 4th Street
Fado’s is the leading soccer bar in Austin and is the self-professed home of the real fans. They’ll show all 64 games live on their HDTVs, with sound and the best soccer crowds in town. They also have a special game day menu, with featured pints from Ireland, England and Belgium and delicious sporting food stuffs.
LAVACA STREET BAR – 405 Lavaca Street
Lavaca Street bar is a go-to for sporting events and during the World Cup, they will be showing each of the games throughout the competition. They’ll also have cheap drink specials throughout the Cup, including $12 domestic buckets throughout the tournament.
MALAGA TAPAS & BAR – 440 W. 2nd Street
Malaga is a vibrant, locally-owned restaurant and bar offering a wide variety of Spanish tapas. And during the World Cup they will be airing only matches involving Spain. During the games, though, they’ll be offering $5 sangrias during game time.
