Austin-based Bravo Interior Design – the firm behind five custom units in The Austonian downtown luxury condominiums – approaches interior design on a completely custom level. So custom in fact, that it spans all stages of the home building process. They work with builders and architects during all stages of the home building process to achieve the most ideal environment for each client and their particular needs which results in environments that are fully-incorporated and cohesive, from the blueprint to the finish out.
The home pictured is a 3,700-square-foot, three-bedroom home at The Austonian. The owners lived in suburban Austin their entire lives and decided to make the transition to downtown living as empty nesters and grandparents to seven children, who visit quite often. The completely custom floor plan and interior design incorporates the vision and style of the owners, who worked closely with Bravo Design to create a comprehensive custom plan. The result is a detailed, luxurious home with interiors that are elegant yet designed to sustain the rough treatment of a large family with kids and pets. Six of the seven grandchildren can sit at the large three-slab-wide marble island in the kitchen. Custom millwork throughout the home integrates with the décor and provides plenty of space for storage.
David Bravo and lead designer Meredith Owen have worked on five custom units in The Austonian, including a few that are currently under construction. They’re experienced in designing homes for other luxury residential towers across the country, and appreciate the freedom The Austonian affords its designers. “One of the unique things about The Austonian is their flexibility when it comes to construction,” Bravo said. “They’ve allowed us to do certain things that I know are difficult for them to do – such as combining units and removing walls – allowing us to capitalize upon the views of The Austonian and to better achieve our client’s aesthetic goals.”
Bravo’s style and material selection are predominately client-based and the firm excels at blending traditional and modern elements to create approachable and livable spaces. This hybrid approach incorporates more contemporary furniture, lighting and other small details into traditional designs, or vice versa, depending on the homeowner’s particular aesthetic preferences. This stylistic back and forth, along with Bravo’s involvement throughout the whole construction process, creates dynamic homes that are perfectly tailored to each homeowner’s individual wants, style and needs.
More about Bravo Design:
Bravo Interior Design began in 2006 as the realization of the firm’s owner and principal designer, David Bravo’s interest in creating a construction-based interior design firm. He had previously worked at John Williams Interiors and at specialty furniture stores in Austin, but he felt limited by the particular furniture lines, and by most design firms’ placement at the final stage of the homebuilding process. As such, he branched out to establish his own firm with the belief that interior design should start in the architecture and planning phase of construction in order to achieve the most ideal environment for each client and their needs. For custom units at The Austonian, this is achieved in many ways, from customized cabinetry, panels and finish out materials, to the complete redesign of floor plans, adjusting walls and other spaces in ways that complement the building’s surroundings and downtown views.
